GREYHOUND BREEDING & RACING

Irish Greyhound Owners & Breeders Association

Federation in existence over 40 years

The national federation representing greyhound owners and breeders, coordinating regional Greyhound Owners & Breeders Associations across Ireland.

History & heritage in Ireland

In existence for more than forty years, the federation is the controlling body of Ireland's regional Greyhound Owners & Breeders Associations, administered by a democratically elected national committee drawn from each affiliated region.

What the practice involves

Members breed, rear, train, race and course greyhounds, and take part in the federation's regional associations, which feed into national representation on industry matters.

Conservation & land management

The federation's focus is industry sustainability and owner welfare rather than habitat conservation, pressing for fair prize money, traceability and transparent governance across the greyhound sector.

Standards, legality & welfare

This pursuit is practised under Irish law and the rules of its governing body, which sets welfare, conduct and membership standards for every affiliated member. Reports of malpractice are investigated and can result in suspension or expulsion.
